I just found a super cute idea that would be great for libraries celebrating St. Valentine's day - Blind Date with a Book!
Basically, you take disguise a book so only the barcode is visible, and then write out a few "clues" about what the book is about on the outside. Patrons take a chance and pick out a book based on your clues. It sounds fun and like a great way to potentially get people out of literary ruts.
I think it could be easily adapted to literacy volunteer organizations, too! One of the organizations that I volunteer with also has a book bank, and it could be fun to wrap up some books and encourage our patrons to have some 'blind dates.' Something to keep in mind for next year!
